Editor-in-Chief and with Sherill Tippins,

Illustrations by Anthony Alex LeTourneau

Backed by the medical authority of the American Academy of Pediatrics

This comprehensive guide to attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) offers parents balanced, reassuring, and authoritative information to help them understand and manage this challenging and often misunderstood condition. Based on the American Academy of Pediatrics' own clinical practice guidelines for ADHD and written in clear, accessible language, this book answers the common questions: How is ADHD diagnosed?, What are today's best treatment options, and Will my child outgrow ADHD? Accurate, up-to-date findings on evaluation and diagnosis, coexisting conditions, and unproven treatments are provided. Also addressed are behaviors associated with the teenage years and what schools can do to support children with the condition. ADHD management strategies that balance the roles of behavior therapy, medications, and parenting techniques are suggested.

American Academy of Pediatrics is the world's largest association of pediatricians. Its 57,000 member pediatricians dedicate their efforts and resources to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, teenagers, and young adults. Michael I. WatchMinder: The stylish WatchMinder2 personal assistant is here to help! This terrific device looks like a sports wristwatch and displays text messages like MEDS, RELAX or PAY ATTN up to 30 times a day. It is private reminder system with a vibration (or beep) alert. Use any of the 60 preprogrammed messages or create your own personal reminders. All of this is done without a computer or paging service.

The WatchMinder has many advantages over a traditional watch. A wrist watch is loud, disruptive, and not ideal for the classroom environment. Second, most wrist watches could only be programmed for a limited number of reminders per day. The WatchMinder watch is programmable up to thirty alarm vibrating alarms per day.

The WatchMinder is being used by children and adults with Attention Deficit Disorder, as well as persons with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, urinary incontinence, and asthma. Senior citizens are using the watch to manage medication intake and hard of hearing persons benefit from the vibration system in the watch. The watch has also been utilized in research studies and has been a useful tool in clinical trials research. Because the WatchMinder is a vibrating, silent alarm and reminder system, it can be worn by these people and others like them, with minimal disruption to the user or those around him.
